Word Work-Vowel digraphs (-ea, -ee, -ai, -ay, -oa, -ow)
Comprehension Skill-Compare and Contrast (nonfiction texts)

Writing-Personal Narrative

Math:
Continue with Subtraction (2 and 3 digit subtraction, subtracting with expanded form, problem solving using subtraction, subtracting across zero)

We will be taking our first math benchmark test on Wednesday of this week. This assessment will give us an idea of the students' progress on material covered up until this point in the year.  We will let you know how your child scored on this assessment and will also use this information to guide your child's math instruction.

Science:
We will continue our work with landforms and bodies of water.  We have been working on research projects using QR Codes and the internet.  This week, we will be creating 3-D models of our chosen landforms/bodies of water and making presentations to the class about our them.  We will also be comparing and contrasting our landforms/bodies of water, looking for similarities and differences.

The third graders will be taking a trip to the Andy Griffith Playhouse on Tuesday to see a production of "The Mixed-up File of Basil E. Frankweiler."  There is no charge for this trip, however your child must return his/her signed permission form in order to participate in the trip.

Please make every effort to have your child at school by 7:45 each morning so he/she can get to class on time and be ready for instruction to begin by 7:55.  Also, it is very important that your child remain at school until the end of the day at 2:40.  Our instruction continues until the very end of the day.  I realize that sometimes it's necessary for your child to arrive late/leave early due to sickness or medical appointments, however, your child will find it easier to keep up with the rest of the class if these instances are kept to a minimum.
